2010 Connecticut Scholastic Arts Awards Show.
Congratulations to our students on their award winning work!
Congratulations are in order to the following students whose art work was selected for exhibit in the 2010 Connecticut Scholastic Arts Awards Show. This art competition is a non-profit, all volunteer activity which is sponsored by the Connecticut Art Education Association. The Scholastic Art Awards of Connecticut is an affiliate of The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. This program recognizes the work of talented young artists in Grades 7 to 12. Student artwork is juried by professional artists and university art faculty and is selected on merit for inclusion in a state-wide art exhibition held at the University of Hartford Art School. Beyond the honor of being selected for this high quality exhibit, students may be awarded gold or silver key medals and honorable mention places in 17 different media categories. The winners from Walsh Intermediate all belong to the school's art club and include the following students:
Haley Brown:
Honorable Mention in the Category of Painting/Acrylic and Watercolor
Jane Lockery:
Silver Key in the Category of Comic Art/Color Pencil
Cale Brooks:
Silver Key in the Category of Mixed Media/Combine
Ian Sielski:
Gold Key in the Category of Mixed Media/Combine
Grace Coolidge:
Gold Key in the Category of Printmaking/Linoleum Cut; was also noted as Best in Show Printmaking Group 1.
The exhibit may be viewed at the Hartford Art School's Silpe Gallery 12:00-5:00 every day until February 5, 2010. A regional celebration reception for all Key winners and honorable mentions will be held Sunday January 31st 2:00-3:30pm in the University of Hartford's Lincoln Theatre. The winners of the gold key awards will have their artwork submitted as a digital image to the National Level Scholastic Art Awards Jury at the close of the exhibit. The national jury will choose works for exhibit in the National Show held in June, 2010.
